Cache la Poudre NHA Strategic Interpretive Plan
The Cache La Poudre River National Heritage Area (CALA) spans 45 miles and includes lands within the 100-year flood plain of the Cache La Poudre River. Poudre Heritage Alliance (PHA) is the managing entity of the CALA, and is working to interpret the historical development of water law and the role the river played in the history of westward expansion.
As part of their efforts, PHA teamed with Studio Tectonic to create a Strategic Interpretive Plan. A series of tasks were defined to help reach several goals:
– Update a Feasibility Study from 1990 that identified Points of Interest within CALA
– Work with stakeholders to identify needs and opportunities for PHA
– Identify overarching interpretive goals for PHA
– Expand core themes and topics for interpretation to include the critical theme of interconnection, and also the ways that people have impacted the Poudre River
By defining the work plan into a series of tasks and engaging in workshops and listening sessions, Studio Tectonic helped PHA define a unified vision and prioritize future actions. The Strategic Interpretive Plan documents these priorities along with themes, strategies, and recommendations. An end result is a powerful tool that will help PHA guide its path toward the future as they work to promote the National Heritage Area, engage visitors, and inspire learning, preservation, and stewardship.
