Canyons of the Ancients National Monument
Canyons of the Ancients National Monument, managed by the Bureau of Land Management, is more than 175,000 acres of important archeological significance. The visitor center and museum introduce the complex monument’s more than 8,500 archeological sites for public exploration, protection, and recreation. It is a living landscape with twenty-six affiliated Tribes.
Based on the extensive interpretive and implementation plan completed by Studio Tectonic, this Phase 1 of the build-out reorganizes and focuses the visitor center messaging, functions, and experience. As visitation continues to increase, the new visitor center informs the public in more clear and inspiring ways. The voice and story of the land’s native peoples take center stage in sharing the heritage and needs for sensitive visitation. New graphical standards and content begin the revitalization of this decades old institution. Next phases include revitalizing the core 3,000 sq. ft. permanent exhibition.
