Opened in 2017, the Colorado State University’s Biology Department building engages natural history exhibitions that make natural connections through biophilic design. This video and interview with Seth Frankel (Principal at Studio Tectonic) was presented on March 28, 2019 at annual Society for College and University Planning Pacific Region’s conference. Presenters also included architects from Hord | Coplan | Macht and the Colorado State University.
Biophilic design is a fascinating design approach that incorporates nature into the built environment to enhance creativity and clarity of thought, reduce stress, and improve feelings of wellbeing. The panel discussed how biophilic design was incorporated into Colorado State University’s (CSU) new Biology Building, the impact the building has had on students, staff, and faculty, and opportunities for biophilic design on university campuses.
